"Knowledge is power" is a quote that many of us have heard at some point in our lives. Although cliché, this is very important during your birth. Effective childbirth education often results in a domino effect:
(1) You learn valuable information and get your questions answered
(2) Your knowledge base allows you to make informed decisions
(3) You feel prepared to go into your birth with a greater sense of confidence
(4) If you were previously anxious about labor, there will now also be feelings of excitement to put all that you learned into practice!
I am a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator with experience teaching in group and private settings. Your private childbirth education class will take place in your home and be filled with evidenced-based information that is specific to your family's experience and preferences.
Topics include but are not limited to:
• Signs and stages of labor
• Advocating for yourself and making informed decisions
• Identifying your personal childbirth preferences (many people refer to this as a birth plan)
• Basic anatomy and physiology of pregnancy
• Positioning/Movement for pregnancy, labor, and birth
• Pain management and comfort measures
• Tips for your partner and labor support team
• Education about common interventions and terminology that may be presented to you
• How to cope if challenges arise
• Inductions and Cesarean birth
• Newborn behavior and needs
• The postpartum period
