"Dara provided us with such sound advice and amazing knowledge from birth to postpartum. Her education of comfort measures and positioning were so reassuring that natural birth can be a pleasurable experience and subsided many of my fears."- Lee-Ann
Numerous clinical studies have found that the continuous support a doula provides tends to result in:
Absolutely not! My support is also geared towards your loved ones. A primary goal is to take pressure off of anyone you choose to involve in your birthing process so they can participate at their own comfort level. A doula's presence can strengthen their role and confidence by providing education and encouragement. I will also ensure that they eat properly, do not get overly fatigued, and have the opportunity to rest if needed. If you have your own devices/equipment available, I am able to take photographs and capture your memories as desired.
Whether or not you use pain medications, you can still benefit from having a doula. As your doula, I will help prepare you to make informed decisions about pain management options and provide comfort measures during early labor before they are administered.
Even with an epidural, it's important to change positions to create space in your pelvis for the baby to descend. A doula can offer suggestions on positions and movements to help labor progress effectively after the epidural is given.
I will be there to support you in the event of a scheduled or unplanned Caesarean birth. My role as your doula in this situation may involve:
Many individuals choose to include doula services on their baby shower registries, allowing family and friends to contribute funds and significantly reduce, if not eliminate, your out-of-pocket costs. One convenient option for this is www.babylist.com, where you can create a registry and add your doula fees along with items from any store. Gift cards for doula services are also available for purchase.
Additionally, there are promising developments in insurance coverage for doula support. Some insurance companies now cover doula services, and it's worth exploring the possibility of using HSA/FSA funds. Another great tip is to check with your employer; several companies, such as TD Bank, Walmart, PNC Bank, Microsoft, and CVS, have initiated reimbursement programs for employees' doula costs.
The earlier we begin to form our relationship the better! The initial meeting is free and monthly check-ins will follow. We will have two in-person meetings during your pregnancy.
